Ich fand sie eben so.	but I found it.

Alsob sie Wurzeln hätte,	As if it had roots,
An einer lieben Stätte	in a beautiful part
Des Gartens pflanzt' ich sie,	of the garden I will plant it,
Und dachte, sie gedieh.	and thought it would flourish.

Da kam ein Frost aus Norden,	Then came frost from the north,
Und sie ist krank geworden;	and it became sick;
Es kam mit Glut ein Süd,	and from the south it came scorching,
Und sie ward lebensmüd.	and the plant became tired with life.

Nun hör' ich, daß man sie habe	Now I hear, that they have one
In einem frischen Grabe	in a fresh grave
Gepflanzt im Kirchhofsraum,	planted, in the cemetery,
Es ist mir wie ein Traum.	it is for me like a dream.

Ich soll sie mit Thränen begießen,	I should with tears water it,
Sie wird zum Himmel sprießen,	it will sprout to the heavens,
Der Himmel ist ihr Ort,	heaven is her place,
Sie trägt ihre Krone dort.	she wears a crown there.

Dort ihre Krone trägt sie,	She wears her crown there,
Hier ihre Wurzel schlägt sie	here she sinks her roots
Mit Schmerz in meine Brust,	painfully into my breasts,
Der Schmerz ist meine Lust.	the pain is my joy.
