Ein frühverlornes Pärchen	an early-lost little pair
Von Schwestern in der Brust.	of sisters in my breast.

Dem Knaben zwar, dem Lümmel,	The boy admittedly, the rascal,
Erblich der stille Glanz,	inherited the quiet brilliance,
Und bald im Weltgetümmel	but quickly in the tumult of the world,
Schien er verschwunden ganz.	it seemed to vanish.

Doch als die goldne Leier	But as the golden lyre
Zerriß den Wolkenflor,	tore apart the bloom of clouds,
Trat glänzend aus dem Schleier	shining out from the veil stepped
Das Sternbild neu hervor.	the image of a star again.

Es hing davon gemalet	Hung, painted on the wall
Mir an der Wand kein Bild,	for me was a small picture of this,
Doch immer hat gestralet	but it had always shone
Mir eins im Herzen mild.	gently in my heart.

Es war davon gesungen	Of it was sung
Vom Vater kein Gesang,	from the father no song,
Doch hat es nachgeklungen	but it went on sounding
Mir in der Brust solang.	in my breast so long.

So hoff ich, daß die Knaben,	So I hope, that the knaves,
Die ein Geschwisterpaar	the sibling pair
Jetzt achtlos sehn begraben,	now heedlessly yearn for burial,
Doch einst es nehmen wahr.	some day it will be perceptible.
